Welcome to our weekly newsletter that keeps you up to date with happenings at our fine club.
We are now in that stage of the season where deferrals are aplenty, Uni holidays seeing changeable opponents as we vie for the coveted Hanlin Shield, the pinnacle of club supremacy in club football.
A special thank you to our very committed gym floor team who have completed stage 1 of this project in record time. We greatly appreciate the huge effort Colin Thom, Robbie Oram, Ron Lippers and their helpers have put into this project and we are all very thankful for your efforts in the project.
Giddy Up!

This was our catch up game from round 3. We had a game plan, and the players to execute the game plan, but to no avail! Today's game was about as poor as I have seen us play all year, not through a lack of trying, players missing tackles, missing passes, and not being able to string 5 passes together. We just lacked an element of anything today.
Although I am disappointed, I'm also quite optimistic about this coming weeks game, we have players leaving to go home for Varsity holidays as well as other players going to planned festival events, not ideal but it's been part of this season and we move on. So, this week is about training hard on the training ground and selecting the players who apply themselves at training through their abilities not their mouths or self-arrogance.
Queenstown to their credit got better as the game went on. They scored just before half time by an old Roslyn favourite in Matt Cordelle. He also scored in the second half as well, leaving us no chance of getting back into the game. We will turn up this week, and we will make amends the players realise that we need to be better and we will be, there will be changes this week for players wanting to play for their mates and the club not thinking that they know better they will also follow a very simple game plan.
Players of note. Tom Stevens did well, Oscar as well, so did Ben Sinnott, Nathan Wilkie. Man of the match This week I'm giving it to Tom Stevens and Ben Sinnott. They wanted it more than others.
Regards,
Terry

Played Balclutha AFC at Ellis Park
WIN 6 - 0
We spoke before the game about being given the honour of playing on the number one pitch this weekend. I challenged the team to give their all to show that we respect the tradition of that honour and to play with the pride that respect deserved. It was a tough first forty-five against a resolute Balclutha side. We battled hard and had to put in a good performance to be in front at halftime 1-0. Thanks to a well worked team move that resulted in Luke Salisbury scoring. Balclutha played with pride and determination and were difficult for us to break down during a fairly even first forty-five.
We spoke at halftime about remaining tight and compact and continuing to try and dominate the physical game. The second half was a very comprehensive step up and we were rewarded through our football by scoring another five goals. Two more through Luke Salisbury. Two through Alex Black, a penalty and an absolute screamer. And finishing the scoring was Conrad Sinclair. Giving us the 6-0 victory.
Standout performers were Luke Salisbury who run all day and was a constant goal scoring threat. Alex Black who showed the type of performance that makes him incredibly difficult to play against. Blake Martin who captained the side and was faultless at the back. Adam Ryland kept a clean sheet and organised well from the back. While they were the standout players it was a real team effort, and I can’t fault a single player. We must continue to work hard to put together more performances like this one something I know we’re capable of doing.
Frustratingly though, We now take a two week break from football for Uni holidays as our stop start season starts again on 9th July. Huge thanks to TVG for refereeing for us today.

RESERVES
| David Browne Contracting Ltd: Women's Division 1
Played Otago University FC at Brockville
WIN 5 - 4
The Womens Reserves played Uni 3rds up at Brockville Park this week. The girls were determined to get back to winning ways after last week's disappointing result. With that, we opened the scoring with some good attacking play to go one up. Uni soon levelled the scoring with a breakaway goal. Next Uni went ahead only for the Reserves to equalise shortly after.
This was the pattern of play for the rest of the game. At 4 all, 10 minutes from the end, the reserves scored again to take the lead for the 3rd time in the game. Uni's sustained pressure at the end nearly saw them equalise with a minute to go but the ball dribbled past the post. The Reserves held on for the 5 - 4 win in an exciting and nail biting encounter. Goals to Charli, Neve x2 and Lizzy x2.
POD goes to Lizzy for great attacking play in midfield and 2 goals on her return after a few weeks off.

ORIGINALS
| Hope & Sons: Masters 35+
Played Highgate Harbourside at The Oval
WIN 1 - 5
Unbeaten so far, the Originals faced Harbourside at The Oval, we knew it would be tough. We knew we needed to start well, and we certainly did that with an early headed goal from Browny.
Harbourside came back, scoring against the run of play, and our response was huge. Hayden was superb, Damo with a quick-fire hat-trick tore through the opposition. We were a little shaky near the end, but Matty scored from the spot to give us a solid 5-1 win. This keeps us on the top of the table, with massive games coming up next, let's keep this form lads.
POD - Damo, brilliant all-round play up top, deserved his hat-trick!

WIN 2 - 0
A cracker result on a cracking Dunners winters day on the 4. A last minute count up meant an urgent call-in for Duncs and he played superb, until an unfortunate hammy rip for the young fella. The game was a classic to and fro effort until Marcus Glover took an opportunist strike and up one nil we went. This settled the ranks and then another Mr Glover strike gave us the final 2-0 result, as mentioned it was cracking effort from the whole team but hats off to Sid, fully stripped but didn’t get a run and kept everyone gee’d up for the match, he was our player of the day.

TROJANS
| Connor Consulting: Masters 45+
Played Grants Braes AFC 45+ at Ocean Grove
LOSS 3 - 0
After a week of soul researching a trimmed down Trojans squad took on Grants Braes out at the Sandpit. We played with a bit more urgency and continuity assisted by Mike Shotter running the subs so management could concentrate on putting their game faces on. Although 3 nil looks convincing two of the goals trickled in and the last was a well constructed move and finish.
The long arm of the law Neil Louden forced his way into a starting midfield role and impressed with his energy and passion here. POD was a toss up between Blackie and Aaron Miller. A well organised bye for the long weekend will be welcomed and although we are only just ahead of the bye on the points table we know how consistent they can be and won't be taking them lightly as we fight them off for the wooden spoon.
POD - Blackie and Aaron Miller

Played Dunedin City Royals FC at Ellis Park
DRAW 1 - 1
Down to Ellis Park J5 on a chilly winter morning, a light frost to the northern end of the ground and the boys are in good spirits already. We’re up against the Minions today, a team we haven’t been able to beat since we have been playing (according to their coach after the game they haven’t lost in 5 years). This is a team we have had many close games against, but always seem to have come off on the losing side. So, I had a little chat to the boys about tactics and how I wanted us to play the game.
We start the game strong, and the boys are playing great and create a couple of early chances but fail to convert them. They didn’t let this get to them though and maintained the pressure and were soon rewarded with a goal, when Harry struck from around the edge of the box low to the keepers right, it looked like it might be saved, but a slight fumble and it crossed the line. It kind of felt like we deserved some luck at last, as it had always seemed to go their way in previous matches. The confidence grew even more, and James and Lee were proving strong in the midfield, then a bit of magic from Fin to put a nice ball through for Harry to get his second. Could an upset be on the cards? The fight carried on with Angus, Jakob and Matt keeping it strong at the back, with Asher in goal only being called on to make a couple of saves. Victor was a dynamo (as usual) and Jamie had one of his best games. Late in the first half it was this year’s recruit Tao who scored a great goal and gave us a 3-goal cushion going into half-time.
The second half was tougher the Minions came out trying to put us under pressure, Lee was kept a little busier in goal than Asher in the first half, but the boys managed to repel all the attacks and create breakaway chances. A very tight battle in the second half to keep things tense, but the team dug in, fought hard and kept a clean sheet. Our 3 nil win was a well-deserved result today, I couldn’t be prouder of the effort put in from all the team. Player of the day went to Tao, who had a great game but kudos to the whole team for this result. This is the way we want to keep playing and improving.
