Roslyn Wakari AFC is saddened to hear the passing of Saeed Omidwar who tragically lost his life in a car accident in Auckland. A recent club member, the young footballer played for both the Seconds and Thirds over the past couple of years and was a school mate during his time at Otago Boys’ High to many of our players.
The club would like to extend our condolences to Saeed’s family during this extremely tough time.

Giddy up Saeed.

Kia Ora everyone,
This week without head coach Terry Boylan due to COVID circumstances, I had the privilege of being player coach for our match at home to Queenstown AFC. Coming into the match, after some discussions with Terry we had a reshuffling of some players due to Uni holidays, injuries and unavailabilities. We welcomed back Max Johnstone to the squad after being out injured with a hamstring tear and we had Reid Hulleman also join the squad coming up from the seconds.

After last weeks poor showing from the boys this week was about having the right mentality and intent to start well and get on the front foot, which we did, going 2-0 up in the first 20mins. First goal came after some quality build up play and our front players linking together where Nathan Wilkie slotted home a nice finish past the keeper in the bottom left corner. Second goal came from a set piece, Luke Clissold delivering a quality near post ball for the oncoming Shay Thom to blast his glancing header in the back of the net. Being 2-0 up you are never safe, Queenstown hit back through a Tom Stevens own goal palming into his own net from a corner after facing some difficulty and then Queenstown’s young winger Cato cutting in from the right hand side and slotting a great strike past Tom.

2-2 going in to half time. Coming out for the second half, knowing the Blair Davidson shield was on the line we had more determination, want and Desire to get the job done. Max Johnston scored a far post header to put us up 3-2 early in the second half. The boys were defensively solid for most of the second half and our goal wasn’t threatened to often, apart from the odd Queenstown corner or free kick. Individually our performance’s from players overall was a lot better this week which made the team as a collective get the job done and retain the Blair Davidson shield. Hard to single to many players who stood out as everyone had a decent work rate and certain quality about them today but our player of the day went to Reid Hulleman who’s performance at left back was excellent. Kept it simple, attacked when needed, defended well and linked up play into the midfield and attack when needed. Very proud of the boys to bounce back from last week. Another good week of training ahead as wee look to another big game against Mosgiel next Saturday. Thanks to everyone for the support!

Kia kaha,

Regards,
Harley Rodeka

WOMEN'S PREMS | Affinity Mortgage Advisors: Kate Sheppard Cup
Played Green Island AFC at Ellis Park
WIN 4 - 1

Squad - 1. Kate Hannay, 2. Saffron Hare, 3. Sophie Wylie, 4. Jemma Wilson, 5. Sophia Body, 6. Holly White, 7. Amelia Newlands, 8. Alex Maffey, 9. Neve Darlington, 10. Emma Black, 11. Sam Grey, 13. Zara Pratley, 14. Beth Fitchett, 16. Isy Parry, 18. Amelie East Giles
Goal Scorers - Emma Black x2, Holly White x2

Leading into the penultimate game of this round, the squad knew that getting three points were crucial. We started off strong and the majority of possession in our favour meant we eased into the game nicely. Quick attacking play and smart decisions gave us the lead early as Emma Black found the net in the 21st minute. Confidence grew throughout the half and in the 33rd minute Holly White slotted the ball in the back of the net from a tight angle at range following a piece of individual skill. Both Amelia and Zara worked well out wide, producing chances from crosses and constantly breaking the GI defensive line with pace. This was supported by Alex Maffey who played her role superbly, matching the physicality of the GI players and constantly hunting for the ball. With a scoreline of 2-0 at the end of the first half we were confident to enlarge the gap. Both Saffie and Jemma played with attacking intent, supporting the front line from deep. This ultimately led to Holly White’s second in the 55th minute. Sophie Wylie was composed and calm, being both a playmaker and a defensive asset throughout the entirety of the match. This supported Beth and Sam, who continued to prove what a great partnership they are, giving the GI attackers no time on the ball, shutting down attacking transitions and playing out from the back with poise. Cameos from Isy, Sophia, Neve and Amélie gave fresh legs to the team and this was followed by Emma’s brace in the 72nd minute. Kate Hannay was left to watch, facing no shots from open play throughout the game. However, complacency in the last few minutes resulted in a penalty for GI which was successfully executed.
We are aiming to carry this form into the next fixture as we face University.

Player of the day was Zara Pratley who continued her impressive run of form proving very difficult for defenders to get anywhere near and showing an excellent work rate defensively.

SHETLANDS | Property Brokers: Women's Division 1
Played Green Island AFC at Ellis Park
LOSS 0 - 2

ORIGINALS | Hope & Sons: Masters 35+
Played Northern AFC at Brockville
WIN 4 - 3

The Originals took on a slightly unorganised but highly motivated Northern side at altitude, with the black and white mob disrupting all our flowing passes and stifling our attacks. After some sustained pressure the Northerners opened the scoring only for this to jolt the Originals into action, with Damo scoring seconds later. This was how the rest of the game seemed to play out, they would score early in the second half, we would immediately reply, they went ahead again from the spot, we fought hard and equalised again, then digging deep finally took the lead. This led to a nervy finish to the game with both teams fighting for a result. Luckily, we held out for the win, with goals going to Damo with a hattrick and Norm with a thunderous goal (not the bicycle kick unfortunately). It was a truly an enjoyable game with 2 teams matching skill and wit instead of kicking each other off the park also helped as we managed to prevail by digging deep to grind out a win to earn the celebratory RanCans.

Player of the Day went to Hayds who got shuffled into the backline and then proceeded to show why he has to now talk his way out of playing there next week.
We now look forward to a top of the table clash vs the bin chickens at Culling estuary this Saturday.

COLTS | Downie Stewart Lawyers 45+
Played Dunedin City Royals FC Lions at Tahuna Park
LOSS 1 - 5

The Pack arrived at Tahuna Park to play the Dunedin City Royals Lions, this was a top of the table clash and our confidence was high despite having only 12 Colts available.

Formally known as the Dunedin Tech Lions, our clashes against them have always been very contested and it was apparent from the onset they thought the same, calling in 5 members of last year's league winning team Caversham to bolster their chances. We were 1- nil up at half time following an impressive back post header from big Lance, however the Maroons/Reds combo soon got into their stride and some clear pace advantage from the younger Cavey imports exposed our ageing back line, the final result was a hard one to take as we thought we had their measure.

We will pull our socks up get over this and look forward to the wee break, then see what happens in the final two games of the "all-in" round robin. Player of the day went to Brendon Pryde, coming into a huge match after several years out of the game, he was a great addition to the troops, well done Charlie! Also a big thanks to Sherb for his last minute dash to help out and he also played very well for the full match.

Giddly diddly up the pack of Colts

Scorer - Lance Woods
PoD - Charlie

BRUMBIES | 12th Grade
Played Green Island AFC at Ellis Park
WIN 8 - 2

12th Grade Brumbies took on G.I. for the 3rd time this season with the boys recording 2 close wins already. Unfortunately for the green and gold visitors they were low on subs and had to relocate an injured player into an unfamiliar role as keeper all while the Brumbies managed to click and attack from the back like they had at some point listened to their coaches. We managed to run away 8-2 winners but credit to a G.I. team that fought to the very end and their makeshift goalie who made some outstanding reflex saves. Our player of the day went to our RB Daniel who was the starting point for many attacks as well as stopping many of theirs.

CAVALIERS | 13th Grade
Played Dunedin City Royals FC Hammerheads at Bayfield Park
WIN 3 - 8

The 13th grade Cavaliers team faced 2nd placed DCRFC Hammerheads last Saturday.

It was another good team performance and 8-3 win with 6 goals by player of the day Ashish Sujith.

SPONSOR HIGHLIGHT
With a nationwide branch network, Donaldson Brown are New Zealand’s largest provider of 100% transparent risk and insurance advice to kiwis and kiwi businesses.

Our commitment is to deliver unconflicted advice and value in a totally transparent manner to every single one of our customers.

WHAT IS UNCONFLICTED ADVICE
Unconflicted advice is a new concept to the insurance industry that centres around removing commissions and product-based incentives, instead focusing on the best value and risk-based outcome for the customer.  This could mean less or no insurance depending on the balance sheet tolerance of the business.

The vast majority of commercial insurance advisors have a natural conflict of interest given they are remunerated as a percentage of the premiums from the products they sell. This is not directly linked to the value they deliver to their customer.  Income earned as a percentage of premiums (commissions) is not the right way to measure value.  Donaldson Brown removes all commissions from the premiums, then has a transparent fee-based conversation with the customer directly linked to the value we deliver.

Donaldson Brown, is not remunerated or incentivised by hidden fees or commissions (i.e. selling you more insurance product), instead we focus on having direct discussions around what a business should be doing to ensure that its balance sheet is appropriately protected without conflict of interest.

You deserve the right to measure the value your broker delivers.  Donaldson Brown give you this ability, whilst the vast majority hide this from you.
